Humanity, Technology &
The Mystical

For the past decade and a half, I’ve been fascinated by the intersections of humanity and technology. From the advancement of society through sharing and accessing knowledge instantly using the tiny devices in our pockets to an entire segment of a country’s population choosing to commit violence upon their fellow countrymen because of weaponized algorithms. To say we are at a tipping point as a species is a gross understatement. We are bearing witness to the transformation of society through technological advancement, similar to the impact of the printing press in the 1400s, only this time we have allowed corporations, kleptocrats and a handful of sociopathic billionaires to leverage our technology to further their own agendas.
Enter the mystical. In my late teens, I discovered the Grateful Dead and counter culture literature and dove deep into Zen and Buddhism from a secular perspective. In the mid to late 2000s, I traveled to some of the holiest places in the world for documentary projects. I noticed a trend in many of my photographs of people interacting with some of the holiest sites in the world. In every location, I documented someone having a mystical experience. I was completely perplexed because I never felt moved in any of these locations, yet I was clearly witnessing the profound mystical experience of others.

After spending many years as a professional storyteller and keeping humanity at a safe distance with my camera between us, I decided to explore spirituality from the inside. I began a regular yoga practice eight years ago and worked with energy healers from a multitude of modalities. I’m a skeptic until I undergo first hand experience of something-- then I can speak to the validity of whatever I experienced. In 2021, I returned to undergraduate studies to finish my degree and chose a Buddhist-inspired secular university that specializes in a contemplative education pedagogy. The school was founded by Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and the first yoga classes were taught by Ram Dass. The writing programs were created by Allen Ginsberg. I’d found my home and my community to undergo my own deep exploration and cultivation of a spiritual practice.

The podcast and essays are a culmination of a lifetime of insatiable curiosity and my continual fluidity between the advanced technical reality we are all navigating and the deep spiritual adventures our souls are crying out for. It seems somewhat odd to combine these three elements into one container, but at the end of the day, we’re dealing with all three elements at all times.

Much of the mystical that I explore in my dharmic work comes from my studies in tantra yoga and Tibetan Buddhism. I study under some of the top religious scholars and practitioners in the country and I am simply sharing this ancient wisdom as both a student and a storyteller. I’m not here to guide or lead anyone. I’m only here to share information with you so that you might choose or enhance your own spiritual adventures. I just finished my YTT training and upon graduation, I will have an RYT 500 certification and a BA in Yoga Studies.

exploring humanity, technology & the mystical

My technical experience comes from a decade of website production and working with blockchain technology. I began working with blockchain in 2012 as I explored a p2p, encrypted email protocol called BitMessage. I was fascinated by the technology, yet none of my journalism colleagues could figure it out, so I set the tech on a shelf.

Fast forward to 2017 and the hacker community I was a member of decided to create our own crypto currency for fun and my hackers taught me how to actually buy and trade crypto. We then started a blockchain dev shop and built some of the first NFT technology on the NEO blockchain. I entered the NFT space as an artist in 2021 and also worked as the community manager of an NFT membership protocol for 9 months while also taking classes full time. I am an active member of JournoDAO and we’re on a mission to restore sustainable business models to local media outlets using decentralized technology.

My technical topics and guests will tap into my diverse work within a variety of technical communities, including web3 builders, NFT artists, mindful crypto traders, infosec professionals, devs and many more. I'll also introduce my audience to the brilliant journalists I've had the great honor to work with and learn under throughout the years. While many of these storytellers are focused more on the humanity side of things, several of them are now walking in both the web3 and journalism world and we'll be exploring the many nuances of this work as well.
